A new role for Local Trust in championing communities

CDF's legacy to Local Trust

March 2016

By Debbie Ladds, chief executive, Local Trust

We have exciting news to share: Local Trust has been offered in the region of £500,000 by the Community Development Foundation (CDF) to advance, advocate and promote community development. CDF are also providing a further £20,000 for us to lead a legacy project – an opportunity for all those who work with communities to reflect on progress and shape the future of community development.

This announcement comes as part of CDF’s plan to transfer their assets before they close at the end of March 2016. CDF are an organisation with whom we share our values, a passion for communities, and much of our own history; they were the organisation that created us in 2011.

We share the sadness about their closure and we have huge respect for the calm and planned approach they have taken to managing it and to securing a strong legacy. We're also proud to have been chosen to receive this legacy and we're committed to using the money wisely, taking advantage of our future life-span of at least 10 years.

Big Local remains our main programme and focus, and will continue unchanged. The legacy money will help us take what we’re learning from Big Local’s successes and allow us to work with others, including you, to do even more to advance, advocate and promote community development across the country.
